Cecilia Ziano

Violin · 2026 Jury

Italian violinist Cecilia Ziano enjoys a versatile international career.

Particularly recognised for her expressive interpretations, her musicality and curiosity have taken her to stages around the world in various roles: as a soloist, as a passionate chamber musician and as play/direct leader with numerous orchestras. She is leader of the Kammerakademie Potsdam and the Münchener Kammerorchester; with the latter she has just completed a solo tour that included halls such as the Isarphilharmonie in Munich and the Alte Oper in Frankfurt.

She collaborates with the Rotterdam Philharmonic, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande.

Since 2014 she has been first violin of the Lyskamm Quartet. After completing their studies with Heime Müller in Lübeck and with ECMA, the quartet won numerous prizes in international competitions: 1st prize at the “Possehl Wettbewerb”, 2nd prize and special prize at “Schubert und die Moderne” in Graz, 1st prize at the “G. Bergamo” in Lugano and the prestigious Borletti-Buitoni Trust award, which opened an international career for the quartet. In 2019 they released their first CD, devoted to Bartók’s quartets.

Cecilia is also interested in Baroque and Classical repertoire: she has worked and studied with Federico Guglielmo, Lorenzo Coppola and the Spira Mirabilis project, toured Denmark with Sergio Azzolini and, with her quartet, explored the Classical and Romantic language working closely with Clive Brown.

Encounters that strongly influenced her musical growth include Ferenc Rados, the Cuarteto Casals, Bruno Giuranna, Guy Braunstein, Boris Garlitzky, Eberhard Feltz and the Spira Mirabilis project.

She teaches violin in the annual advanced courses at the Accademia di Musica di Pinerolo and at the “I Musici di Parma” summer course in Salsomaggiore Terme.

In 2022 she released her solo album “Waiting for Paganini” on KHA Records, played on both Baroque and modern violins.

She began studying the violin at the age of four with Fabrizio Pavone using the Suzuki method. She graduated from the Turin Conservatory with Christine Anderson, while from the age of eleven she studied with Dora Schwarzberg and Adrian Pinzaru at the Accademia di Musica di Pinerolo. She completed her studies in Berlin at the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” with Kolja Blacher and in Cremona with Salvatore Accardo.

She plays a 1971 Sesto Rocchi violin.
